Fritz Erik Hoevels
Dipl.-Psych. Dr. Fritz Erik Hoevels studied psychology, classical philology, and literary studies in Freiburg im Breisgau, where he worked as a practicing psychoanalyst. In 1983, he came forward with his book “Marxism, Psychoanalysis, Politics”, which caused quite a stir. Further details about his public activities — which have made him, to this day, a highly reviled figure among the churches, their cheerleaders, and sympathizers — can be found in the historically insightful collection of documents “30 Years of Heresy”. His study of Wilhelm Reich’s contribution to psychoanalysis — before this probably most competent of Freud’s students suffered a mental breakdown under pressure from his many persecutors — is widely regarded as the standard work on the subject. He has authored numerous publications on the application of psychoanalysis (therapy, literature, collective fantasies, particularly those of religion) as well as on contemporary issues. Hoevels is also the founder and co-editor of the journal “System ubw—Journal of Classical Psychoanalysis.” He is the German editor of the most important works by the English ancient historian Hyam Maccoby (who unraveled the origins of Christianity more soberly and accurately than anyone else). His two-volume work “How Wrong Was Marx, Really?” can be regarded as a seminal work that sets new standards in terms of its analytical depth and acuity.
